Crime Rates Hit Decades-Low as Immigration Crackdowns Take Hold

Murder in the United States has reached its lowest level since approximately 1900. The violent-crime rate declined by 9.3 percent in 2025, marking the largest year-to-year drop since the FBI began tracking national trends in 1936.

Net migration may have turned negative in 2025 following mass deportations under the Trump administration. Approximately 190,000 of those deported individuals had criminal convictions, with thousands identified as gang members.

The data shows a sharp decline in specific crime categories: aggravated assault fell by 31 percent; motor vehicle theft decreased by 30 percent; burglary and trespassing dropped by 25 percent. Overall, households experienced roughly 3.5 million fewer property crimes in 2025 compared to the previous year.

A recent editorial noted that a nationwide reduction in violent crime occurred during President Donald Trump’s first year in office, with Democratic mayors attempting to claim credit for the decline despite the fact that the drop was national and coincided with intensified enforcement efforts. The editorial highlighted that the administration’s focus on crime-fighting has produced results.

Specific examples include individuals deported by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from various countries who were charged with serious offenses. In New York during Operation Rotten Apple, officials detained:

– Bogdan Detrovich Gren, an illegal alien from Ukraine, convicted of kidnapping, abduction resulting in death, criminal possession of a weapon, and murder.
– Andreas Bernal Chiquito, an illegal alien from Colombia, arrested for sexual conduct against children under 17 and acts intended to injure children under 17.
– Noel Celestino Lopez Martinez, an illegal alien from Mexico, convicted of first-degree rape through forcible compulsion.
– Palvinder Singh, an illegal alien from India, convicted of rape in Germany.
– Chhun Kim Pril, an illegal alien from Cambodia, convicted of drug trafficking.

The editorial emphasized that removing criminal aliens from communities has freed up local law enforcement to address homegrown crime. It also noted the administration’s deployment of National Guard troops to cities as a measure that has bolstered public safety.
