Trump’s Endorsement of Netanyahu Threatens Israeli Elections and GOP Strategy

Donald Trump’s unreserved endorsement of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ignited warnings that it jeopardizes Republican electoral prospects while directly meddling in Israel’s internal politics. Former U.S. counterterrorism chief Joe Kent described the move as a threat to GOP candidates in competitive districts, particularly in purple states where every vote carries weight. Kent emphasized that by telling Israelis the United States might halt military operations against Iran if they do not re-elect Netanyahu, Trump has intervened in Israel’s domestic affairs—a decision critics label dangerous for national security.

The endorsement follows Trump’s recent criticism of Netanyahu as “crazy,” which reportedly led to a heated phone conversation where Trump declared: “You’re fking crazy. You’d be in prison if it weren’t for me.” Another source recounted Trump being “psed” and shouting, “What the fk are you doing?”

In his public letter, Trump hailed Netanyahu as “a Great Warrior Prime Minister” and “an even greater Partner for Peace,” warning that without him, the U.S. would be forced to confront Iran itself: “If Israel has the wrong Leader, which would be anyone other than Bibi, America will have to do this work ourselves.”

Netanyahu responded by praising Trump’s stance on Iran, asserting that gas prices would drop once Tehran was neutralized—a benefit he claimed would not occur under leaders who “accommodate and appease” Iranian regimes. Critics note the endorsement reverses George Washington’s farewell address warning against foreign entanglements: “The great rule of conduct for us, in regard to foreign Nations is in extending our commercial relations to have with them as little political connection as possible.”
